A useful accounting core comes first

The current 0.4.0-preview package includes invoices, bills, partial payments, credits, ageing and reconciliation in the accounting core. Optional Purchasing and Inventory reuse its shared posting and outstanding-balance services. Manually configured tax supports inclusive or exclusive prices. Reports connect figures to their account movements and source records.

The application uses PHP 8.2+, MySQL 8.4 and MeekroDB in BixiSoft's modular PHP structure. The project-owned core and current modules use AGPL-3.0-or-later; a commercial licence is available. Published 0.1.0 through 0.1.5 previews retain their MIT grants. Dependencies, fonts, photographs and historical source keep their own terms.

Country-neutral accounting, regional connectors

PHP Ledger is for small businesses, owners, bookkeepers and accountants across countries. Pakistan is one intended regional direction, not the main or ultimate product scope. Pakistan FBR is one planned connector alongside other tax and e-invoicing integrations. Each connector will have its own supported jurisdiction, entity and review requirements.

Free self-hosting and clear terms

The accounting core remains open source. Self-hosting for your own business is free, with no licence keys or licensing-server calls. A separate commercial licence is available on request. Future commercial modules will be named before release; native desktop and Android clients remain planned paid add-ons.

What preview means

Use synthetic records while evaluating the software. Qualified accounting review, jurisdiction-specific reporting, independent security review and observed business usability remain open gates. A balanced report alone does not establish compliance.

Who maintains the project, and how can you assess it?

Rana Mansoor Akbar Khan maintains PHP Ledger; the repository makes implementation, licence terms and development decisions inspectable.

The application follows BixiSoft’s modular PHP architecture with MeekroDB. That architectural background is distinct from a professional accounting qualification, audit opinion or product certification; none is claimed here. Read the contribution guidance and security policy before sending a change or a sensitive report.

Hosting and optional assistance fund their own operating costs and have separate terms. Open source gives you rights to inspect and use the code under its licence; it does not remove your responsibility to operate backups, keep the host patched or decide whether the supported workflows fit your business.

When should you wait for a later release?

Wait if you need advanced warehouse operations, payroll, automatic country tax rules, tax filing or independently accepted statements today. The current starter is intended for synthetic evaluation of its bounded accounting flows.

The learning pages publish general bookkeeping education; the research pages carry dated sources and jurisdiction-specific limits. Neither collection turns a planned feature into released software. Begin with the sample demo, record a narrow evaluation task and compare its evidence with the release notes.
