Follow a day's bank movement to its source
Start with the balance, check the movement, then open the receipt that created it.
PHP Ledger guidance: use this page with the matching release notes and evaluate the workflow using synthetic records.
This walkthrough uses Cedar Studio, the fictional service-agency pack prepared for 0.2.1-preview. The public download and demo remain 0.1.5-preview while the next release is being verified. These figures are synthetic USD examples from the local candidate.
1. Open the right company and day
In the candidate demo, choose Service agency — Cedar Studio and USD. Open the sample guide, then Check that day's bank movements. The account is 1000 · Cash and bank, used as the primary bank in this pack. Both the From and Through dates are 15 January 2026.

2. Reconcile the movement
The opening bank balance is 40,825.00. The receipt adds a 2,700.00 debit, and there are no credits that day. The closing bank balance is therefore 43,525.00.
40,825.00 + 2,700.00 − 0.00 = 43,525.00. For this asset account a debit increases the balance. Opening and closing balances use the complete posted ledger, even when the table is searched or paginated.
3. Open the source
Choose View transaction beside the movement. Its reference is service-agency/receipts-2026-01. The source is an illustrative monthly bank-receipt summary dated on the 15th. A separate month-end operating journal records cash sales. Neither source is an imported bank statement.
The linked journal debits the primary bank and credits income by the same 2,700.00. A saved draft has no effect on this statement until it is explicitly posted.
4. Try a small change
Return to the sample guide and open the practice drafts. The petty-cash expense is dated in February 2026. Review it before posting, then use the guide's petty-cash statement to compare the balance. A February entry must not change the January 15 statement.
Keep this exercise synthetic. Each visitor has separate books and all demo access expires at the hourly reset. Start a fresh sample and reconnect any client after expiry.
Next: check monthly adjustments or compare quarters and years.
